The HKUST-NYU Stern Master of Science in Global Finance (MSGF) program and CFA Society Japan are co-hosting a finance seminar on March 11 in Tokyo. In this seminar, Professor Kasper Meisner Nielsen will explore the valuation of two electric vehicle (EV) giants: BYD and Tesla.
We will analyze their financial metrics and market perceptions surrounding both companies, highlighting their distinct approaches to growth, production, and innovation. We will discuss the strategic differences that set BYD apart from Tesla, including BYD's diversified product lineup and strong foothold in battery manufacturing versus Tesla's focus on advanced technology and premium branding.
Additionally, we will examine their ongoing competition for dominance in the rapidly evolving EV market, considering how each company's strategies may impact their long-term success.
The session will also address concerns regarding a potential trade war, which casts shadows on future growth prospects and international operations for both companies. This geopolitical tension could significantly affect supply chains, market access, and overall competitiveness in the global EV landscape.
In this session, you will learn about
Basic valuation tools and techniques
Practical application of valuation to business cases
Valuation of growth options and technology
What you can (and cannot) learn about business cases from valuation techniques
The interaction between geopolitics and corporate valuation
The MSGF Admissions team will be onsite before and after the seminar, providing a valuable opportunity for you to ask questions about the program and seek guidance on your application.
